Tremendous news regarding the Brain Tumor Research of Dr. Markus Bredel and his laboratory...

Below is a letter we received from Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute, a program The Carlos Fund supported last year:

"I am writing to you all as members of the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute Advisory Council, Board of Directors and generous supporters of the Brian Tumor Institute and the research of Dr. Markus Bredel. Today was a wonderfully exciting day for the Institute as Dr. Bredel and his lab had not one but two original contributions published in this week's issue of the Journal of American Medical Association. There has been a great deal of national media interest in their work as they have identified a network of 31 mutated genes that stealthily work together to create the perfect molecular landscape to allow glioblastoma tumors to flourish and mushroom to the size of an apple in just a few months.

The first link is to the press release from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine that celebrates the success of this research and the two other links are a few of the many stories that have been picked up in the national and local press.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Bredel, his lab manager Jaclyn Renfrow and their many talented collaborators and partners on their great work. Their discoveries help researchers understand the tumor's vulnerabilities and offer new targets for therapies to treat the disease."
